Art is simply, in time, an expression of one’s self. Our art is Shotokan karate. As a young student, you will learn the techniques as they should be performed for rank or belt tests. Years of training will go into honing the skill level of an advanced karateka.
Learning the basics is just like learning the basic colors, shapes, or musical notes. From the 6 main primary colors, an artist can produce beautiful paintings using hundreds of blends of these 6 colors. So it is with martial arts training. Once you have a solid grasp on the basics then you can express yourself through these movements. Your karate skills come alive with energy and passion. They are no longer just robotic memorized motions. They live, breath, and explode with self-expression.
At this point karate is no longer just an activity that you do, it’s a way of life.
